How to break up a relationship without breaking his heart?

I reckon I'll end up more broken hearted. He seems dominant, controlling yet loving and immature. He really pushed the pin this morning.

The only way a relationship can end without sensitivity break is when you become indifferent. Or in fact despise one another. Other than that there is no way out of sensitivity. Well the best thing to do is be honest and say what you feel. If you don't believe it's working out then say it. If you have mutual like for him or if you don't feel the same way as you used to then just be honest. Clarify your issues and apologize. He'll either fight for your like or just leave it be. Maybe he feels the same or maybe he wants you to be pleased more than anything so he'll ease into letting you go.
